Members on Life Support Systems Awareness Program
Today there are many instances where a home bound member, spouse, or child is being medically treated with an electric-powered life support system. In the event of a storm, accident, or planned outage, this could be a cause of considerable concern. It is a physical impossibility for Niobrara Valley Electric Membership Corporation to guarantee that the electricity will not go off at some time. Farm equipment and automobiles occasionally hit poles and tear the lines down, lightning strikes, and ice storms can also interrupt your power supply. Occasionally, our power supplier sustains damage to it's equipment, which stops the flow of power to N.V.E.M.C.
To eliminate as many problems as possible, we suggest the member do some advanced planning that can help:
1. Call the Niobrara Valley Electric office and advise them of your situation. We may be able to offer some help.
2. Look into obtaining a personal emergency standby generator.
3. Consider installing a double-pole, double-throw switch so you could borrow a neighbor's emergency standby generator for a short time.
4. Remember, N.V.E.M.C. is concerned about your well being. If we can help, we will if given the opportunity. By working together now, we can reduce those problems you face when the lights do go out.
