In 1999 the Goodwill Fund Board of Directors selected the first student in the Niobrara Valley Electric Membership
Corporation service territory to receive a $500 scholarship. Since this first scholarship, the Board has continued to
award an increasing number of deserving students with a scholarship. Please select the links below to learn more about

2011 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS CHOSEN

The recipients of the 2011 Goodwill Fund Scholarships have been selected. Due to the quality of the twenty-eight applicants and the availability of funds, the board chose to award seven $500 scholarships this year. This year’s recipients are listed below. The Niobrara Valley Electric Goodwill Fund board would like to congratulate all the winners and wish them the best of luck in pursuit of their respective careers.

Bobbie Adair
BOBBIE ADAIR
Bobbie Adair’s senior year has kept her busy taking three college classes which enabled her to be accepted to Hastings Central Community College in the Pre-Dental Hygiene Program. She has been involved in gymnastics. Bobbie works at Braun’s Food Center, attends BYM at St. Joseph’s, volunteers at the Sturdevant McKee Museum and enjoys babysitting. Bobbie resides with her aunt and uncle, John and Diane Alden of Atkinson. She likes to spend her free time with family and friends.
   
Ryan Borg
RYAN BORG
Ryan Borg is the son of Jim & Delma Borg from Stuart. He is a member of the National Student Athlete Honor Roll, SHS Honor Roll and the National Society of High School Scholars. He is a Cadron/Norfolk Scholastic and UNL Math Day participant. Ryan is a member at St. Boniface Parish and a Community volunteer for the Stuart Athletic Club Youth Tournaments, KC Basketball Program, SHS Youth Football Camps, St. Boniface Cemetery, and the Bronco Boosters. He is a 4-year letter winner and Team Captain in Football, Basketball & Track with All-Area/All District/All State Honors in Football, NVC Honorable Mention Basketball, State Track Qualifier for 3 years and State Track Medalist for 2 years. He is currenlty participating in Track and is hoping to end his Track career at State again this Spring. Ryan plans to attend the University of NE at Kearney entering the Pre-Physical Therapy Program.
   
Kyle Carr
KYLE CARR
Kyle Carr is the son of Curtis and Lori Carr of Amelia. Kyle attends Chambers Public School where he is involved in Football, Basketball, Track, Band, FCCLA Chum Program, C-Club and Honor Roll. Kyle is a ten year member of the Sandhill Wranglers 4-H Club. He has competed in county, district, and state levels of competition in the beef, horse and shooting sports projects. Kyle has been accepted into the Utility Line Program at Northeast Community College in Norfolk.
   
Derek Durre
DEREK DURRE
Derek Durre’s achievements include being a member of the National Honor Society and being on the Honor Roll at Chambers High School. He participated in Football, Basketball and Track. He also participated in the 2010 State Track Meet in triple jump. Derek is a member of the Goose Lake 4-H Shooting Sports Club. He is also a member of the Chamber’s FCCLA Chapter, C-Club and the Chambers Band. Derek is the son of Mark Durre and the late Diana Durre. He plans to attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and major in Agricultural Engineering.
   
Jeremy Pacha
JEREMY PACHA
Jeremy Pacha is the son of Corey and Cathy Pacha and is a senior at West Holt Public Schools. He has been involved in FFA, Pep Band, Jazz Band, Cross Country, One Acts and the All School Play. Jeremy plans to attend Northeast Community College to pursue a degree in Wind Energy and Utility Line.

   
Rick Pfeifer
RICK PFEIFER
Rick Pfeifer has participated in the NVC Tech day for two years and has placed 2nd and 4th in power mechanics and 2nd in hydraulics and pneumatics. Some the activities he enjoys are football and working on his family farm. Rick’s parents are Frank Pfeifer and Cathy Wade. He plans to attend Southeast Community College in Milford to study Diesel Mechanics.
   
Amanda Wenner
AMANDA WENNER
West Holt High School senior, Amanda Wenner is the daughter of Marsha Wenner and the late Michael Wenner. Throughout high school she has been involved in Volleyball, Track, One-Acts, and FCCLA. Amanda is also very active in the community of Atkinson. Next year, Amanda will attend Southeast Community College in Lincoln majoring in Dental Assisting. When she completes her classes in Lincoln, she will apply for the Dental Hygiene program at Hastings Community College.

 


SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES
SCHOLARSHIP
Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to any member of the Niobrara Valley Electric Membership Corporation, or their immediate family, attending a post-secondary institution of the student’s choice.

SELECTION COMMITTEE
The Board of Directors of the Niobrara Valley Electric Goodwill Fund, in consultation with the Guidance Counselors of the student’s school, will comprise the Selection Committee.

APPLICATION
Applications will be available at the Niobrara Valley EMC office in O’Neill and copies will be made available to the schools listed below. The schools shall notify seniors of this scholarship. The deadline for applications will be March 8th. Applications may be turned in at the school or the cooperative office. The following schools will have scholarship applications available: West Holt High School, Butte High School, Chambers High School, Lynch High School, Niobrara High School, Spencer-Naper High School, Stuart High School, O’Neill Public High School, and St. Mary’s High School.

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY
1. The student or their parents must be a member of the Niobrara Valley Electric Membership Corporation.
2. The student must be a high school graduate.
3. The student must be in the upper 2/3 of their graduating class, or
4. The student must have at least an overall Grade Point Average of a “C” or 2.0 on a 4.0 scale at the end of the 7th semester of their high school studies or at the end of their most recent semester at a post secondary institution.
5. The student must attend an accredited college, community college, or voca- tional school the next term following their graduation from high school. If the student is already attending an eligible institution, then the scholarship must be used for the student’s next term.
6. A student may receive this scholarship more than once only if all eligible applicants are prior scholarship recipients.
7. The student must submit their application to their School Guidance Counselor or turn it in at the office of the Niobrara Valley Electric Membership Corporation on or before March 8th.

ALTERNATE SELECTION
If the primary recipient of the scholarship does not accept it or fails to attend an accredited college, community college, or vocational school the scholarship will be awarded to an alternate. The alternate must meet all of the requirements of the scholarship to be eligible.

PAYMENT
At the beginning of the recipient’s school term a check for the scholarship will be issued to the institution which the student is attending.




Scholarship Applications Due March 8th
Scholarship applications are sent to the guidance counselor at each high school within the Niobrara Valley Electric service area. Please ask your guidance counselor for an application or you can print your own application form by selecting the link below. Applications should be returned to the Niobrara Valley Electric Office by March 8th.
