Goodwill Fund Scholarship Program

In 1999 the Goodwill Fund Board of Directors selected the first student in the Niobrara Valley Electric Membership
Corporation service territory to receive a $500 scholarship. Since this first scholarship, the Board has continued to
award an increasing number of deserving students with a scholarship. Please select the links below to learn more about

2008 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS CHOSEN

The recipients of the 2008 Goodwill Fund Scholarships have been selected. Due to the quality of the eighteen applicants and the availability of funds, the board chose to award five $500 scholarships with one alternate this year. This year’s recipients are listed below. If one of the recipients is unable to use the scholarship, the alternate, Brett Miller of Chambers, would receive the scholarship. The Niobrara Valley Electric Goodwill Fund board would like to congratulate all the winners and wish them the best of luck in pursuit of their respective careers.

Aaron Hanzlik

AARON HANZLIK
Aaron Hanzlik is the son of Frank and Dawn Hanzlik of Niobrara. Aaron attended the Breakfast of Champions, Cornhusker Boy’s State and Nebraska Leadership Seminar. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council and N-Club at Niobrara High School. Aaron has participated in band, football, basketball, track, golf, drama and speech. He is also a member of the Rosedale Covenant Church and attends Presbyterian Youth Group. He has assisted with community activities such as Verdel and Niobrara community Clean-up days, helped with various youth programs and participated in the Cemetery Walk in Niobrara. Aaron plans to attend Northeast Community College in Norfolk and study Agricultural Mechanics.

   
Amber Johnson
AMBER JOHNSON
Amber Johnson is the daughter of Kurt Johnson and Georgia Sylvester. She is currently a 4-year basketball, track and volleyball participant at Stuart High School. Amber has been a One Act cast and crew member for two years and has served as Stuart FFA chapter Treasurer. Amber has received achievements in basketball including NVC first team honors for two years and the All-State honorable mention team for two years. She is also very active in the Stuart community, volunteering in community improvement activities, Stuart Athletic Club and also the Stuart Community Church. Amber plans to attend Wayne State College and major in education.
   
Rebeka Laible
REBEKA LAIBLE
Rebeka Laible is the daughter of Jerry Laible and Kristine Laible. She is a senior at West Holt High School and has been involved in many activities over the past four years. These activities include: speech team - 4 year letter winner, Choir - 1 year letter winner, One Acts - 3 year letter winner. Rebeka participated in the State Speech Contest her senior year and has participated in the Chadron Scholastic Contest for 3 years. She is the senior class secretary. In the fall, Rebeka plans to attend Chadron State College and pursue a degree in Business Administration.
   
Grace Tuttle
GRACE TUTTLE
Grace Tuttle, a senior at Chambers High School, is the daughter of Galen & Linda Tuttle and Patricia Tuttle. She has been active in FCCLA, One-Acts, speech, journalism and band. Grace is also a member of the National Honor Society and C-Club. She was selected to attend Girl’s State and currently serves as senior class secretary. Grace plans to attend Nebraska Methodist College at the beginning of the summer in the Radiology program.
   
Ashley Wickersham
ASHLEY WICKERSHAM
Lynch High School senior, Ashley Wickersham, is the daughter of Brenda and Darold Wickersham. She has participated in basketball for 4 years, dance and drama for 1 year, spirit squad for 2 years and SADD for 3 years. Ashley has held several class officer positions including freshman secretary, sophomore treasurer and junior and senior vice president. She is a member of the National Honor Society, is on the honor roll and has participated in the Scholastic Day in Norfolk. Ashley was named to the National Honor Roll and Who’s Who Among American High School Students. She has had one of her poems published in A Celebration of Young Poets. Ashley volunteers her time at the local movie theater by helping out in the concession stand. She plans to attend Central Community College in Hastings and major in Accounting.

 


SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES
SCHOLARSHIP
Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to any member of the Niobrara Valley Electric Membership Corporation, or their immediate family, attending a post-secondary institution of the student’s choice.

SELECTION COMMITTEE
The Board of Directors of the Niobrara Valley Electric Goodwill Fund, in consultation with the Guidance Counselors of the student’s school, will comprise the Selection Committee.

APPLICATION
Applications will be available at the Niobrara Valley EMC office in O’Neill and copies will be made available to the schools listed below. The schools shall notify seniors of this scholarship. The deadline for applications will be March 8th. Applications may be turned in at the school or the cooperative office. The following schools will have scholarship applications available: West Holt High School, Butte High School, Chambers High School, Lynch High School, Niobrara High School, Spencer-Naper High School, Stuart High School, O’Neill Public High School, and St. Mary’s High School.

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY
1. The student or their parents must be a member of the Niobrara Valley Electric Membership Corporation.
2. The student must be a high school graduate.
3. The student must be in the upper 2/3 of their graduating class.
4. The student must have at least an overall Grade Point Average of a “C” or 2.0 on a 4.0 scale at the end of the 7th semester of their high school studies or at the end of their most recent semester at a post secondary institution.
5. The student must attend an accredited college, community college, or voca- tional school the next term following their graduation from high school. If the student is already attending an eligible institution, then the scholarship must be used for the student’s next term.
6. A student may receive this scholarship more than once only if all eligible applicants are prior scholarship recipients.
7. The student must submit their application to their School Guidance Counselor or turn it in at the office of the Niobrara Valley Electric Membership Corporation on or before March 8th.

ALTERNATE SELECTION
If the primary recipient of the scholarship does not accept it or fails to attend an accredited college, community college, or vocational school the scholarship will be awarded to an alternate. The alternate must meet all of the requirements of the scholarship to be eligible.

PAYMENT
At the beginning of the recipient’s school term a check for the scholarship will be issued to the institution which the student is attending.




Scholarship Applications Due March 8th
Scholarship applications are sent to the guidance counselor at each high school within the Niobrara Valley Electric service area. Please ask your guidance counselor for an application or you can print your own application form by selecting the link below. Applications should be returned to the Niobrara Valley Electric Office by March 8th.
